Women at Work: What is the Measure of our Success?

Oregon Women Lawyers' Fall CLE will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in downtown Portland. Lawyer, activist and former president of the National Association for Women, Patricia Ireland, will be the keynote speaker. Following the keynote, Ms. Ireland will share a panel with the Honorable Anna J. Brown, United States District Court for the District of Oregon. Following the CLE, join us for our Fall Reception, where we will honor the recipient of the OWLS Workplace Leader Award.

OWLS ANNOUNCES NEW OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS

Oregon Women Lawyers (OWLS) is pleased to announce its new officers and board members for 2010-2011.  The board president is Concetta Schwesinger, who is the district attorney liaison to the Oregon child support program in Marion county.  She served previously as vice-president and treasurer.  OWLS’ vice-president /president-elect is Heather L. Weigler. Heather is an assistant attorney general with the Charitable Activities Section of the Oregon Department of Justice in Portland.

Megan Livermore continues on the executive committee as treasurer. Ms. Livermore is an associate with Gaydos Churnside and Balthrop in Eugene. 

Cashauna Hill joins the executive committee as secretary.  Ms.Hill is the fair housing staff attorney at the Oregon Law Center. 

Kathleen Hansa Rastetter continues to serve on the executive committee as historian.  Ms. Rastetter is Clackamas County Counsel in Oregon City.  All OWLS officers are also members of the board.

In addition, OWLS is pleased to announce its newly elected and reelected board members: Megan Burgess (Bend), Bonnie Cafferky Carter (West Linn), Gina Hagedorn (Portland), Sally Anderson Hansell (Hermiston), Heather Hepburn (Bend), Elizabeth Tedesco Milesnick (Portland) and Shannon Terry (Salem). Cass SkinnerLopata (Eugene) was appointed by the OWLS board on May 1 to fill a recently vacated position.

Board members continuing their service are: Hon. Frances Burge (Roseburg), Dana Forman (Portland), Kendra Matthews (Portland), Linda Meng (Portland), Hon. Julia Philbrook (Portland), Shannon Terry (Salem), Hon. Katherine Tennyson (Portland), Jane Yates (Eugene) and Hon. Youlee You (Portland).

Thursday April 22: Take Your Kids to Work Day

Approximately 200 kids joined members of the Multnomah County Circuit Court for "Take Your Kid to Work Day" at the Multnomah and Clackamas County Courthouses.

OWLS celebrated two women lawyers on Friday, March 12 for their committment to promoting women and minorities in the legal profession and the community. The Justice Betty Roberts Award was presented to Sarah J. Crooks, partner, Perkins Coie LLP by Justice Susan M. Leeson.

The Judge Mercedes Deiz Award was presented to Mary Oberst, first lady of Oregon by Elise Gautier.

Carol McCoogCarol Juang McCoog was named to The Portland Business Journal's 2010 Forty Under 40 list, which recognizes Portland's top business and civic leaders under 40 years old.  Carol is an active member of the Oregon Asian Pacific American Bar Association (OAPABA).  She is a partner at K&L Gates and practices public finance law.
