OWLS is a great way to meet colleagues, develop a network of support, and make meaningful connections with other professionals with similar interests. There is a unique camaraderie that can be found in a
predominantly female professional organization. OWLS offers you the opportunity to meet and connect with colleagues in a variety of ways.
OWLS connects you to others via the OWLS e-mail list serve. One of the greatest benefits of OWLS is the opportunity to join the OWLS e-mail list serve, which connects you to hundreds of OWLS members throughout the state to gather
information about referrals, law inquiries, job announcements, and other relevant information. This is an excellent forum in which to ask questions and get timely answers.
OWLS offers a variety of tangible benefits. By joining OWLS you will automatically receive the OWLS quarterly newsletter, The AdvanceSheet; bi-weekly E-News with our calendar of events; a listing in and copy of the annual
Membership Directory (which includes a breakdown by practice area); and discounted registration fee for OWLS CLE programs.
OWLS activities and committees are interesting and provide leadership opportunities. Opportunities include serving on the Leadership Committee or Regional Outreach Committees, helping to plan the Roberts-Deiz annual awards dinner,
or writing for the AdvanceSheet Quarterly Newsletter. By joining OWLS, you can enjoy leadership opportunities, access to experienced and respected leaders in the legal community, and develop meaningful and satisfying mentoring
relationships.
OWLS is a great organization to join and support even if you don't have any extra volunteer time. Simply by becoming a member of Oregon Women Lawyers, you support our mission to transform the practice of law and ensure
justice and equality by advancing women and minorities in the legal profession.
OWLS provides services for contract lawyers. Interested OWLS members can join the Contract Lawyers Service, which provides access to various job opportunities that are posted on the Contract Lawyers list serve by Oregon employers.
The Contract Lawyers list serve also provides members with a forum for communicating with other contract lawyers on a variety of issues that arise in the expanding area of contract lawyering.
Gender based organizations are still necessary. Although great gains have been made since women first started practicing law, there is still not a level playing field for women. It will take more than simply the passage of time to
break through the glass ceiling. Inequity persists in law firm partnerships, judicial appointments, and political appointments. OWLS works to close these gaps. By joining OWLS, you help us close these gaps.
Questions? If you have further questions about OWLS or membership, please feel free to contact our Executive Director, Catherine Ciarlo, at 503.595.7826 or
