Chapter Resources: Hosting an OWLSNet Event

What are OWLSNet events?

OWLSNet events (Oregon Women Lawyers inter-professional networking events) are networking events which bring together OWLS members and other women professionals in the community.  OWLS chapters around the state have successfully hosted OWLSNet events with CPAs, bankers and realtors in their local communities.  In many communities, professional networking groups for women already exist and are a perfect group to coordinate with for an OWLSNet event.

How can my chapter put on an OWLSNet event?

Here are some tips for putting on an outstanding OWLSNet event in your community:

  • Pick a group of women professionals to network with.  Start with your members’ connections in the community or partner with an existing local professional networking group for women to come up with an invite list.
  • Find a spacious (and inexpensive) location and a local sponsor for the event.  Start with local law firms or other professional services firm, such as an accounting firm or local bank.
  • Host a social hour right after work with food provided by the sponsor.
  • Send invitations to all women OSB members in the area (not just OWLS members) to increase attendance.
  • Have all chapter members make personal invitations to their contacts in the community to ensure good attendance.
  • If the event is intended to be an inter-professional networking event, market to all other professional women in the area.
  • Consider asking an OWLS representative to attend and say a few words about the organization.
